Виробники автівок у США хочуть вилучити технологію радіотрансляції AM з автомобілів, натомість окремі групи політиків хочуть закріпити її законодавчо. Про це повідомляє The Wall Street Journal.

AM-частоти протягом останніх п’яти років істотно втратили свою популярність серед американських водіїв: якщо у 2016 році кількість користувачів становила 107 млн, то у 2023 році вона скоротилася до 78 млн. 

Законодавці з різних груп заявляють, що більшість автомобільних компаній не мають жодних зобов'язань щодо майбутнього AM-тюнерів в автомобілях, тому вони хочуть законодавчо зобов'язати їх продовжувати випускати автомобілі з безкоштовним AM-радіо. Політики стверджують, що АМ-радіо — важлива частина мережі екстреного зв'язку, на його частотах також працюють резервні лінії екстрених служб.

Автовиробники і технологічні адвокаційні групи заявили законодавцям, що вимога щодо закріплення AM-радіо як обов’язкового елементу в автомобілях буде «несумісною з принципами вільного ринку».

Окрім цього, представники автомобільних компаній зазначають, що споживачі мають безліч альтернативних способів зв’язку
