Бельгійський міністр з питань імміграції Тео Франкен заявив, що його країна може надати політичний притулок лідерові Каталонії Карлесу Пучдемону, якого було відсторонено Мадридом.

Надання політичного притулку не є чимось нереалістичним, оскільки Бельгія є однією з небагатьох країн Європейського Союзу, яка може надати притулок громадянам блоку.

"Зрозуміло, що це поставить нас у важку дипломатичну ситуацію з іспанським урядом", - зауважив Франкен. 

"Але за законом, можна подати заявку на отримання притулку в Бельгії. Запит, як і інші заявки, буде розглянуто об'єктивно, правильно і незалежно", - резюмував він.

Нагадаємо, минулої п'ятниці депутати парламенту Каталонії проголосували за проголошення незалежності від Іспанії. Мадрид слідом за цим рішенням відсторонив від роботи виконавчу владу Каталонії, розпустив регіональний парламент. Водночас уряди багатьох країн висловилися у підтримку цілісності Іспанії. А голова Європарламенту Антоніо Таяні заявив, що "ніхто і ніколи" не визнає регіон, який вирішив оголосити про своє відокремлення від країни, самостійною державою.
