Британська газета Guardian та її недільний випуск під назвою Observer на початку 2018 року перетворяться на таблоїди.

Таку інформацію оприлюднило видавництво Guardian Media Group, повідомляє Європейська правда з посиланням на  ВВС.

Газети, які зараз виходять у форматі "берлінер" (щось середнє між таблоїдним форматом і традиційними газетними аркушами) з наступного року виходитимуть на меншому аркуші формату А3.

Крім того, ймовірно, будуть закриті друкарні в в Манчестері Лондоні. Друк газет передадуть на аутсорсинг компанії Trinity Mirror, якій належать таблоїди Mirror, Sunday Mirror та People tabloids.

Guardian Media Group також має намір змінити структуру рекламного бізнесу й скоротити на нього витрати. На такі кроки власники газет пішли для того, щоб перетворити збиткові видання на беззбиткові до 2019 року.

"Ми збираємося надати новий вигляд газетам Guardian і Observer, які стануть зухвалими, яскравими та гарними", - сказала головний редактор Guardian Кетрін Вінер.

Guardian перейшла на формат "берлінер" у 2005 році. До цього газета виходила на широкоформатних аркушах. Хоча "берлінер" є популярним форматом в Європі, його не використовує жодна національна газета Британії.
