Мітчел також відомий тим, що став шостою людиною, яка ступила на поверхню Місяця. На відео зонд піднімається усе вище над Землею, поки зрештою не досягає стратосфери. Агентство ASAN, яке виступає в підтримку незалежних досліджень космосу, назває свій вчинок «першим протестом у космосі». Так його члени вирішили проявити своє незадоволення намірами Дональда Трампа скоротити фінансування діяльності федерального агентства з охорони навколишнього середовища (EPA) і американського космічного агентства NASA. Президент США хоче перенаправити кошти з бюджету на оборону, будівництво стіни на кордоні з Мексикою і депортацію нелегальних мігрантів. Відео з «першим протестом у космосі» набрало вже більше 12 тисяч переглядів на YouTube. 

Нагадаємо, наприкінці січня цього року президент США Дональд Трамп видав указ, який обмежив  в'їзду іммігрантів в США. Указ викликав протести тазасудження серед відомих американський компаній та бізнесмнів. Компанія Google навіть створила антикризовий фонд в $4 мільйони через антиімміграційний указ, який співпрацює з чотирма організаціями, які захищають права іммігрантів.
