Бывший сенатор от штата Пенсильвания, республиканец Рик Санторум объявил в среду о прекращении своего участия в президентской гонке в пользу другого кандидата.

Об этом политик заявил в прямом эфире во время интервью телеканалу Fox News, передает Укринформ

В частности, Санторум отметил, что "приостанавливает свою президентскую кампанию 2016 года, поддерживая сенатора от штата Флорида Марко Рубио".

Он сказал, что пришел к этому решению после внутрипартийных голосований в штате Айова, посоветовавшись с женой.

"Мы решили, что мы лучше были бы адвокатами на поддержку того, кто разделяет ценности и будет лучшим на этих гонках", - заметил бывший сенатор.

Рик Санторум занял лишь 11-е место в предварительных голосованиях в штате Айова, собрав примерно один процент голосов.

Как сообщал Укринформ, в среду о выходе из президентской кампании в лагере республиканцев объявил также сенатор от штата Кентукки Рэнд Пол.
