Газета Financial Times назвала человеком года канцлера Германии Ангелу Меркель, говорится в публикации на сайте издания, пишет РБК.

Причиной такого решения стала открытая миграционная политика Германии. Сохраняя двери Европы открытыми для более чем миллиона мусульманских беженцев, Меркель «оставит столь же прочное наследство, как и ее наставник, бывший канцлер Гельмут Коль, который руководил воссоединением Германии и созданием единой европейской валюты», подчеркивает FT.

За свою политику Меркель часто подвергалась критике, в том числе со стороны собственных однопартийцев, напоминает издание. Те, кто не согласен с ней, обвиняют Меркель в высокомерии и самодовольстве, но ее сторонники говорят, что канцлер руководствуется христианскими принципами, веря в положительный эффект от миграции, отмечает газета. FT приводит и слова самой Меркель, которая призывала сограждан прекратить обвинять мусульман и «показать силу своих убеждений»: «Давайте иметь мужество, чтобы сказать, что мы — христиане. Давайте иметь мужество, чтобы сказать, что мы будем вести диалог с мусульманами».

​Ранее человеком года Ангелу Меркель назвал журнал Time. Она стала первой женщиной за последние 30 лет, получившей это звание. Свой выбор редакция журнала объяснила тем, что под руководством Меркель в 2015 году Германия и Евросоюз смогли преодолеть два глубочайших кризиса — в ситуации с Грецией и потоком мигрантов.
