Американська корпорація відключила підключення до низки російських центрів обробки даних та точок обміну трафіком, і ці зміни відобразилися у міжнародній базі PeeringDB.
Подібних дій не було здійснено в жодній іншій країні, окрім росії.
До середини 2024 року Google підтримував зв’язок із великими російськими інтернет-майданчиками, включно з DataLine-IX, MegaFon-IX, W-IX («Ер-Телеком»), «Ростелекомом» та іншими. Однак з осені з'єднання почали зникати. У PeeringDB підтвердили, що видалити інформацію могли лише співробітники Google, а самі російські оператори зв’язку визнають, що ініціатором відключень стала американська компанія.
Це ще один удар по російському сегменту інтернету, який і без того опинився під загрозою деградації через санкції та відтік західних технологій. Відключення від глобальних точок обміну трафіком може призвести до погіршення якості з'єднання, збільшення затримок та подальшої ізоляції російських користувачів від світового цифрового середовища.
