Мэр Риги Мартиньш Стакис и министр иностранных дел Латвии Эдгар Ринкевич заменили государственный флаг Беларуси в центре латвийской столицы на бело-красно-белый флаг.
Флаг Беларуси установлен в Риге вместе с флагами всех стран-участниц чемпионата мира по хоккею, который проходит в Латвии с 21 мая по 6 июня, сообщает издание "Трибуна".
"Поднимаем флаг свободной Беларуси среди флагов чемпионата мира по хоккею. Этот флаг мне доверили политические беженцы из Беларуси. Флаг, который символизирует режим, осуществляющий государственный терроризм, неуместен в городской среде Риги, поэтому мы его сняли!" – написал Стакис на белорусском языке в своем твиттере.
БЧБ был флагом Беларуси в 1991-1995 годах и в 1918-1919 годах в Белорусской народной республике, которая частично располагалась на территории современной Беларуси. В прошлом году он стал символом оппозиции захватившему власть в стране Александру Лукашенко.
