Газета The New York Times втратила свій значок верифікації свого акаунта у Twitter через відмову платити за цей привілей.

Основний акаунт The New York Times, який має близько 55 мільйонів підписників, більше не має позначки верифікації, хоча кілька акаунтів його підрозділів залишаються досі верифікованими. Акаунти NYT Books і Food зберегли свої неоплачені сині галочки, тоді як NYT Travel має золотий значок, оскільки він пов’язаний з офіційною організацією в Twitter. Газета стала одним з перших великих новинних видань, яке заявило, що не буде платити за верифікацію своїх акаунтів у Twitter.

Ілон Маск у відповідь обурився через це, бо газета бере плату за підписку також. Він назвав видання лицемірним і охарактеризував його матеріали «пропагандою».

«  Їхня стрічка — це твіттер-аналог діареї. Це нечитабельно», — написав Ілон Маск.
