Взимку 2013-2014 років журналіст став добровольцем в 15-ій «МНК-івській», відтак у і 14-ій «пластовій» сотнях Самооборони Майдану. З початком російсько-української війни він воював у «Гарпуні», згодом продовжив службу в одному із окремих розвідувальних батальйонів ЗСУ. 

Додому повернувся навесні 2019 року. З того часу і до повномасштабного російського вторгнення Давидюк працював головним редактором видання «Горинь.інфо»

За тиждень до загибелі, 27 жовтня, Тарас написав  на своїй фейсбук-сторінці: «На сьогодні немає і не може бути важливіших справ, ніж війна. І це мають зрозуміти всі. І не лише зрозуміти, але й діяти відповідно».

«Детектор медіа» висловлює щире співчуття рідним і близьким Тараса Давидюка.
