Виконувач обов’язків глави російської республіки Чечні Рамзан Кадиров, за попередніми даними, отримує на виборах керівника регіону понад 97 відсотків голосів. Про це свідчать дані Центральної виборчої комісії Росії після обробки трохи більше ніж 15 відсотків протоколів, повідомляє Радіо Свобода

На посаду глави Чечні також балотувалися кандидати від «Справедливої Росії», КПРФ і Партії зростання, жоден з яких не набирає і двох відсотків голосів виборців.

Активність виборців на голосуванні в Чечні перевищила 83 відсотки, а уповноважений із прав людини Нурді Нухажієв стверджував, що в ході голосування порушень не зафіксовано. Раніше влада Чечні заявила, що на виборчих дільницях у республіці не буде камер відеоспостереження.

Напередодні виборів міжнародна правозахисна організація Human Rights Watch опублікувала доповідь про переслідування опозиціонерів у Чечні. Правозахисники навели більш ніж 40 випадків затримань, побиття і розправ над людьми, публічно засуджували політику Кадирова.

Кадиров керує регіоном від 2007 року. У 2016 році він кілька разів заявляв про те, що його час на посаді глави регіону минув і що російській владі треба знайти іншу людину на цю посаду. У кінці березня президент Росії Володимир Путін призначив Кадирова виконувачем обов’язків керівника Чечні, назвавши його діяльність «ефективною».

Російська опозиція домагається відставки Кадирова. Соратники вбитого опозиціонера Бориса Нємцова наполягають на причетності глави Чечні до його вбивства. Раніше Кадиров у своїх заявах неодноразово називав російських опозиціонерів «ворогами народу» і «шакалами».
