Раніше Льюїс допоміг приховати скандал, пов’язаний із британськими таблоїдами медіа-магната Руперта Мердока. Видання були звинувачені у зламі голосової та електронної пошти як знаменитостей, так і приватних осіб. Скандал вибухнув в 2011 році, коли з'ясувалося, що цілями зламу були жертви насильницьких злочинів і ветерани.
Адвокати принца Гаррі, голлівудської зірки Г’ю Гранта та кількох колишніх британських урядовців стверджують, що Льюїс, який був одним з керівників імперії Мердока, стояв у центрі спроб приховати інформацію про стеження. Водночас, Льюїс заперечує всі звинувачення.
