 Індійський фільм RRR, одну зі сцен якого знімали біля Маріїнського палацу, отримав «Оскар» за найкращу пісню, однак не обійшлося без скандальних перемог

Найкращим фільмом академіки визнали комедію «Все завжди і водночас», яка перемогла загалом у 7 номінаціях. Брендан Фрейзер взяв статуетку у номінації «Найкращий актор» за роль у картині «Кит», а найкращою акторкою стала Мішель Єо, яка зіграла у «Все завжди і водночас».

 Найскандальнішою стала номінація «Найкращий повнометражний документальний фільм»: кіноакадеміки вибрали стрічку про російського опозиціонера Олексія Навального, а не український «Будинок зі скалок», що розповідає про дітей в Лисичанську під час війни.

Отримувала нагороду дружина опозиціонера Юлія Навальна. Вона вийшла на сцену в яскраво-червоній сукні.

Перемога картини про російського політика, який говорив, що «Крим — не бутерброд», викликала бурхливу реакцію у українців та світової спільноти.

 Нагадаємо, раніше організатори найпрестижнішої кінопремії не дозволили виступити там Володимиру Зеленському. У Variety зазначили, що Американська кіноакадемія традиційно вважає за краще триматися подалі від усього політичного.
