З пляшок газованого напою Sprite (бренд належить компанії Coca-Cola Company) у Великій Британії тимчасово зникнуть зелені етикетки. Їх приберуть із пластикових пляшок Sprite та Sprite Zero об'ємом 500 мілілітрів у рамках експерименту зі спрощення процесу переробки та скорочення використання пакувальних матеріалів. Про це повідомляє PRпортал з посиланням на сайт компанії.
Етикетку замінить рельєфний логотип, нанесений на лицьову сторону пляшки, та вигравірувана лазером інформація про напій на звороті. Лімітована серія лимонадів без етикеток надійде у продаж до кількох магазинів британської мережі Tesco Express з січня до березня 2024 року.
Незважаючи на те, що зелені етикетки Sprite повністю придатні для вторинної переробки, їх відсутність значно спрощує цей процес (оскільки не потрібно відокремлювати від пляшок), і в цілому скорочується кількість пакувального матеріалу, що використовується, пояснили в компанії. У 2022 році виробник Sprite перевів усю пластикову ПЕТ-упаковку з її фірмового зеленого кольору на прозорий, щоб підвищити якість матеріалу, отриманого внаслідок вторинної переробки пляшок.
У компанії говорили, що хоча зелений термопластик придатний для вторинної переробки, створений із нього матеріал частіше перетворюється на одноразові предмети, які не можна переробляти на нові ПЕТ-пляшки.
