Федеральний апеляційний суд США залишив у силі рішення присяжних, які визнали обраного президента Дональда Трампа винним у сексуальному насильстві над журналісткою та письменницею Елізабет Джин Керролл. Про це повідомляє The Guardian.

Апеляційний суд заявив, що свідчення двох інших жінок, які звинувачували Трампа в сексуальних домаганнях — бізнесменки Джесіки Лідс та колишньої дописувачки журналу People Наташі Стойнофф, — допомогли встановити «повторювану, ідіосинкратичну модель поведінки» Трампа, яка узгоджується зі звинуваченнями від Керролл.

Американська журналістка, письменниця Елізабет Джин Керролл подала позов проти Дональда Трампа у 2019 році, після публікації своїх мемуарів. Трамп стверджував, що її звинувачення в домаганнях вигадані — нібито для підвищення продажів книжки. У відповідь вона звинуватила його в наклепі.

У травні 2023 року федеральне журі Мангеттена визнало, що колишній президент справді сексуально домагався Джин Керролл у 1996 році, та присудило виплатити їй 5 млн доларів як відшкодування за наклепницькі публічні заяви.

У січні 2024 року федеральний суд присяжних Мангеттена зобов'язав Трампа виплатити 83,3 млн доларів журналістці Джин Керролл за наклеп.
