План відкрити офіс у Києві зʼявився, коли голова правління та генеральний директор Rakuten Хіроші Мікітані супроводжував японських урядовців під час візиту в Україну у вересні 2023 року. Він був представником приватного сектора Японії і зустрівся з президентом Володимиром Зеленським і міністром цифрової трансформації Михайлом Федоровим.
Незабаром в Україні запустять сервіс цифрового гаманця Rakuten Viber. Користувачі Viber зможуть надсилати гроші в країну та з країни за допомогою безпечних миттєвих транзакцій.
