Декільком людям, пов'язаним з ЛДП, висунули звинувачення. У грудні було звільнено чотирьох міністрів кабінету міністрів і п'ятьох віце-міністрів. 4 квітня Кішіда Фуміо, прем’єр-міністр, попросив двох лідерів своєї партії піти у відставку та покарав 37 інших членів ЛДП
Як відзначає Economist, найтиражніші медіа в Японії часто не притягують політиків до відповідальності. Самоцензура широко поширена через зв’язки журналістів із владою. У рейтингу свободи ЗМІ Японія з 11 місяця у 2010 році опустилася торік на 68 місце.
