Новинка з'явилася до другої річниці закінчення активних боїв за місто проти російських загарбників. Марка вийшла тиражем у 1 080 000 примірників, її номінал — 15 гривень.

«Кожне місто-герой — це його люди, перш за все. Люди, які самовіддано обороняли Охтирку та інші міста, що їх націлено хотів захопити ворог у разі поразки цього форпосту. Люди, які віддали життя, виборюючи й захищаючи кожен метр української землі на Сумщині», — кажуть в Укрпошті.

Поштовий блок, конверти, а також штемпель «Перший день» створив художник Володимир Таран, який народився на Київщині.
