Бывший претендент на пост президента США республиканец Бен Карсон, выбывший из предвыборной гонки, планирует поддержать своего бывшего конкурента миллиардера Дональда Трампа. Об этом сообщает The Washington Post со ссылкой на осведомленные источники.

Официально о своем решении, по данным издания, Карсон объявит 11 марта на совместной с Трампом пресс-конференции в принадлежащем миллиардеру клубе в Палм-Бич, штат Флорида. Сам Карсон, как отмечает The Washington Post, уже намекнул, что «склоняется» к поддержке Трампа и высоко его ценит.

Бывший нейрохирург Бен Карсон объявил о прекращении участия в президентской гонке 2 марта. Свое решение он объяснил отсутствием «политического продвижения». На такой шаг политик решился после праймериз в «супервторник» 1 марта.

По итогам праймериз претенденты на пост президента США от демократов Хиллари Клинтон и от республиканцев Дональд Трамп одержали победу над соперниками в семи штатах: в Алабаме, Арканзасе, Джорджии, Массачусетсе, Теннесси и Вирджинии они оба заняли первое место среди однопартийцев. Эксцентричный миллиардер также заручился поддержкой избирателей в Вермонте, а бывшая госсекретарь — в Техасе.

Бен Карсон вступил в борьбу за пост президента США от республиканцев 3 мая 2015 года.

В июле 2016 года обе партии проведут Национальные конвенты, на которых будут избраны их кандидаты. Выборы президента США намечены на 8 ноября.
