Соцмережа X (колишній Twitter) гальмувала перехід на сайти, які публічно не подобаються власнику компанії Ілону Маску. Про це пише TechCrunch.
Платформа сповільнювала швидкість доступу до посилань на кілька вебсайтів, серед них The New York Times, Instagram, Facebook, Bluesky, Threads, Reuters і Substack. За переходу на ці сайти з X відбувалась п'ятисекундна затримка у завантаженні.
Сповільнюючи відкриття порталів, Маск та X потенційно відбирали у компаній трафік та доходи від реклами. Навіть невеликі затримки впливають на відвідуваність, оскільки користувачі можуть закрити сторінку, якщо вона не завантажується протягом однієї-двох секунд.
Швидкий тест показав, що інші великі новинні організації та вебсайти, як-от YouTube і Fox News, завантажувались нормально. Ймовірно, затримки вплинули лише на портали, які колись зазнавали публічних нападів з боку Маска.
Колишній керівник відділу довіри та безпеки Twitter заявив, що Chrome «з незрозумілих причин потрібно п’ять секунд, щоб отримати 650 байтів даних». Він також послався на внутрішнє дослідження, згідно з яким навіть однієї секунди затримки достатньо для збільшення показників відмов.
Генеральний директор Meta Марк Цукерберг відповів «емодзі із задумливим обличчям» на публікацію у Threads, в якій йшлося про проблему затримок. Обох мільярдерів пов’язує історія з поєдинком у клітці, який, схоже, так і не відбудеться.
Це не перший випадок, коли Маск дозволяє своїм особистим образам впливати на соціальну мережу. Раніше він блокував посилання на Substack, Threads та інших конкурентів.
На початку цього року Маск назвав діяльність The New York Times пропагандою і прибрав галочку перевірки новинної організації.
