Журналіст з Гани Абдул Гакім Авал побив рекорд Гіннеса за найдовші обійми з деревом — 24 години та 21 хвилину. Таким чином він пропагував відновлення довкілля.

Подія відбулась біля Центру культури у місті Кумасі. Попередній рекорд (16 годин) раніше цього року встановила екоактивістка з Уганди Фейт-Патриція Аріокот.

Абдул взявся за випробування, щоб привернути увагу до важливості збереження природи в Гані.

Він пообіцяв посадити по дереву за кожну хвилину своєї спроби побити рекорд — загалом журналіст простояв 1461 хвилину.

Журналісту не було дозволено жодних перерв: він мав лишатися стоячки з руками навколо дерева протягом усього випробування.

Новий рекордний час складає 24 години, тож за правилами книги рекордів наступні спроби його побити вважатимуться «марафонами» й кандидатам буде дозволено по дві години перерв на день, аби запобігти шкоді їхньому здоровʼю від недосипання.

Абдул бачив наслідки опустелювання свого рідного містечка Ґару й тепер сподівається створити ініціативу з насадження дерев на національному рівні.

«Ми бачимо, як у Ґані стає дедалі менше дерев — необхідного ресурсу, від якого залежить життя всього людства. Хоч нас із ранніх років життя вчили берегти дерева, спільний внесок не такий значний, яким мав би бути. Для мене ця спроба найдовших обіймів із деревом окреслює важливе завдання — зберегти життя людства, зберігаючи дерева», — каже журналіст.
