Социальная сеть Facebook в среду, 19 февраля, объявила о покупке мессенджера WhatsApp за 16 миллиардов долларов, сообщает Agence France-Presse. Речь идет о крупнейшей сделке в истории компании Facebook, отмечает AFP.

В рамках сделки, закрыть которую планируется в ближайшие время, владельцы WhatsApp получат акции Facebook общей стоимостью в 12 миллиардов долларов, еще четыре миллиарда долларов будут выплачены денежными средствами. Кроме того, по условиям сделки владельцы и сотрудники WhatsApp в течение четырех лет смогут получить акции Facebook на общую сумму в три миллиарда долларов.

В конце 2012 года уже появлялись сообщения о том, что Facebook проявляет интерес к покупке WhatsApp, однако тогда они не подтвердились.

WhatsApp — один из самых популярных мобильных мессенджеров. Он позволяет владельцам мобильных устройств обмениваться сообщениями, картинками, видеороликами и звуковыми файлами. Пользователями WhatsApp являются около 450 миллионов человек.

В апреле 2013 года ряд СМИ сообщили о том, что компания Google ведет переговоры о покупке WhatsApp за миллиард долларов. Однако руководство WhatsApp эти сообщения опровергло.

У Facebook есть собственный мобильный мессенджер, который социальная сеть запустила в августе 2011 года. Осенью 2013 года появлялись сообщения о том, что социальная сеть пыталась купить мессенджер Snapchat за три миллиарда долларов, однако договориться сторонам так и не удалось.
