Meta більше не платитиме американським новинним організаціям за розміщення їхніх матеріалів у вкладці «Новини» Facebook. Про це повідомляє АР. Компанія заявила, що більшість людей «не заходять на Facebook за новинами, тому немає сенсу надмірно інвестувати у сфери, які не відповідають уподобанням користувачів». Компанія не повідомила, скільки вона платить новинним організаціям, але у звітах йдеться про мільйони доларів для великих видань, таких як The Wall Street Journal.

Розділ «Вкладка новин», що з’явився у мобільному додатку Facebook у 2019 році, відбиває лише заголовки з The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, BuzzFeed News, Business Insider, NBC, США Today, Los Angeles Times та інш.

Під час запуску програми генеральний директор Марк Цукерберг сказав, що бачить «можливість встановити нові довгострокові стабільні фінансові відносини з видавцями». Але зараз Meta заявила, що «багато чого змінилося з того часу, як ми три роки тому підписали угоди щодо тестування додаткових посилань на новини у Facebook News у США».

Компанія зазначила, що Facebook News продовжуватиме працювати в інших країнах, у яких він зараз працює — Великобританії, Франції, Німеччині та Австралії.
