Російська влада дедалі більше використовує історію як зброю для виправдання своєї політики. До такого висновку дійшли в останньому огляді Міноборони Британії.

Федеральне архівне агентство Росії видало збірку документів «Про історичну єдність росіян і українців», яка  починається статтею російського диктатора Володимира Путіна на цю тему в липні 2021 року. Одразу після неї збірка містить його звернення щодо ситуації в Україні, виголошене 21 лютого 2022 року, за кілька днів до повномасштабного російського вторгнення.

У книзі представлено 242 документи від 11 до 20 століття, які супроводжуються інтерпретаційними коментарями Путіна. Як зазначили у британському міністерстві, росіяни використовують документи для виправдання політики Кремля та нібито підтвердження наративу про те, що іноземна підривна діяльність «перетворила Україну на "антиросійську" державу».

Російська влада посилює «мілітаризацію історії», аби насадити антизахідні настрої у свідомості російського населення та залякати західних сусідів.

Зокрема, минулого тижня колишній президент Росії Дмитро Медведєв нібито написав статтю про історію російсько-польських відносин, у якій звинуватив Польщу в «агресивній "русофобії"». За його словами, Росія та Білорусь «здатні надати адекватну військову відповідь у разі необхідності».
