У вироку зазначено, що Google через ексклюзивні угоди про дистрибуцію з компаніями-клієнтами навмисно зберігав свою монополію на двох ринках у Сполучених Штатах: загальному пошуковому сервісі та загальному текстовому рекламуванні.
Раніше в Міністерстві юстиції США стверджували, що Google порушив федеральне антимонопольне законодавство, уклавши контракти, які вимагали встановлення Google як пошукової системи за замовчуванням на смартфонах Android. На думку посадовців, це заважало іншим пошуковикам конкурувати з Google на рівних умовах.
Це перша справа, що федеральна прокуратура США порушила проти технологічних гігантів.
