Обраний президент США Дональд Трамп може створити посаду спеціального посланника з російсько-української війни та призначити на неї колишнього посла США в Німеччині Річарда Гренелла.

Про це пише Reuters із посиланням на чотири джерела.

Під час першого президентського терміну Трампа, у 2018—2020 роках, Гренелл був послом США в Німеччині. У лютому—травні 2020 року виконував обовʼязки директора Національної розвідки США.

Прихильники Гренелла відзначають його довгу дипломатичну карʼєру і глибокі знання європейських країн, пише Reuters. Крім роботи послом у Німеччині, Гренелл також був спеціальним представником президента США на мирних переговорах у Сербії та Косові у 2020 році.

Але, як пише Reuters, його погляди щодо України можуть сподобатися не всім. На круглому столі, організованому Bloomberg у липні 2024 року, Гренелл виступав за створення «автономних зон» як засобу врегулювання російсько-української війни. Він також говорив, що не підтримуватиме вступ України до НАТО в «найближчому майбутньому».

Зараз посади спеціального посланника з російсько-української війни в адміністрації США немає, але Трамп «серйозно розглядає» можливість її створити. Проте нема гарантій, що Гренелл погодиться її обійняти.

Призначена Трампом голова пресслужби Керолайн Лівітт відмовилася від коментарів, як і Гренелл. Сам Трамп його можливе призначення теж не коментував.
