Уряд Ватикану оголосив, що під час виборів нового Папи Римського на території міста-держави вимкнуть мобільний зв’язок. Про це повідомило видання The Guardian.

7 травня 133 кардинали проведуть вибори нового пастиря спільноти католиків у Сикстинській капелі Ватикану. Голосування відбувається в суворій таємниці, тож кардинали мають  залишати свої мобільні телефони за межами конклаву, пояснив речник Ватикану Маттео Бруні.

Усі системи передавання телекомунікаційного сигналу для мобільних телефонів на території Ватикану будуть деактивовані з 15:00 7 травня. Зв’язок відновлять після оголошення про обрання нового понтифіка.

Очікується, що віряни зберуться на площі перед базилікою Святого Петра, щоб дочекатися оголошення наступника папи Франциска. Деактивація зв’язку не охоплюватиме площу, уточнив речник.

Нагадаємо, Папа Римський Франциск помер 21 квітня у своїй резиденції у ватиканському Домі Святої Марти. Понтифіку було 88 років. Він обіймав посаду з березня 2013 року.

Президент України Володимир Зеленський висловив співчуття у зв’язку зі смертю Папи Римського Франциска та зазначив, що понтифік «умів давати надію, полегшувати страждання через молитви і допомагати єдності», а також молився за мир для України та українців.

Церемонія поховання папи Франциска відбулася 26 квітня.
