Шотландия одержала символическую победу в борьбе за независимость от Великобритании. Теперь у страны появится собственная доменная зона - .scot. Об этом пишет газета The Telegraph.

Некоммерческая организация Dot Scot Registry на протяжении нескольких лет добивалась регистрации доменной зоны .scot для сайтов, которые сейчас вынуждены регистрироваться в зонах .co.uk и .com. Наконец, соглашение с международными регуляторами достигнуто, и уже этим летом оно начнет работать.

Правительство Шотландии приветствует появление собственного домена и называет его первым шагом на пути самоопределения всей нации.

«Зона .scot сильно запоздала в наш цифровой век. Шотландцы по всему миру терпеливо ждали появления этого невероятно красивого домена и скоро смогут полноценно его использовать», — заявил глава правительства Шотландии Алекс Салмонд.

Скорее всего власти Шотландии будут активно использовать зону .scot при подготовке к референдуму о независимости, который пройдет в сентябре.

Эксперты считают, что результат референдума предсказать невозможно. В течение длительного времени опросы показывали, что большинство шотландцев предпочитают оставаться в составе Соединённого Королевства Великобритании и Северной Ирландии. Однако последние данные свидетельствуют, что мнения сейчас разделились примерно поровну.
