За даними джерел Bloomberg, Apple використає напрацювання Texture для того, аби створити власний сервіс підписки на новини і журнали. Це буде оновлена версія Apple News з преміальним контентом. Компанія залучатиме до співпраці видавців, пропонуючи їм відсоток від доходів, отриманих з передплат. Наприклад, з доходів від App Store за рахунок підписок компанія бере 15% й 30% від продажів додатків.

Після покупки Texture Apple провела скорочення, звільнивши 20 працівників онлайн-сервісу. Решта команди зараз працює разом з працівниками Apple News над новим продуктом.

До угоди між Texture Apple сервіс охоплював 200 кращих світових журналів від видавництв Conde Nast, Hearst, Meredith, News Corp та інших. Texture виник у 2010 році і швидко став одним із провідних у цій сфері. Підписка Texture коштувала $ 9,99 на місяць.

Раніше Apple вже робила спроби запустити новинний сервіс. Компанія створила додаток Newsstand, який потім замінила на більш новий - Apple News. Також у неї був спільний проект з News Corp під назвою The Daily. Однак через брак підписників він закрився через два роки.
