Президент США Джо Байден установил рекорд по сбору анонимных пожертвований на свою избирательную кампанию. Он собрал таким образом $145 млн. Об этом сообщает Bloomberg.

Предыдущий рекорд принадлежал предвыборной компании республиканца Митта Ромни в 2012 году, который получил от анонимных спонсоров $113 млн. Рекорд Байдена в пять раз превышает сборы его соперника экс-президента Дональда Трампа, который собрал для выборов 2020 года $28,4 млн анонимными пожертвованиями.

Издание отмечает, что на протяжении многих лет Демократическая партия США критиковала практику сбора анонимных пожертвований на избирательные кампании. Демократы утверждали, что подобные взносы в предвыборную борьбу коррумпированы, поскольку позволяют сторонникам поддерживать кандидатов без проверки и афиширования личности. Демократы даже предлагали запретить такой механизм сбора средств на предвыборные кампании. Однако, как пишет Bloomberg, «стремясь победить Трампа в 2020 году, они пошли на это».
