Министр иностранных дел Великобритании сравнил президента России с лидером нацистской Германии.

По словам Бориса Джонсона, Владимир Путин использует чемпионат мира по футболу так же, как Адольф Гитлер использовал Олимпийские игры 1936 года для укрепления имиджа страны. С таким заявлением глава британского МИД выступил на заседании парламента, сообщает Радио Свобода

Там обсуждался вопрос участия Великобритании в соревнованиях в России.

Во время своего выступления Джонсон отметил, что Путин ведет себя агрессивно и не считается с мнением международных партнеров. Министр сказал, что Лондон потребовал от Москвы обеспечить безопасность британских болельщиков. При этом, по словам Джонсона, власти страны активно отговаривают людей от поездки в Россию.

 

Глава МИД проинформировал, что представитель королевства, отвечающий за безопасность футбольных фанатов во время чемпионата, был выдворен из России в рамках ответных мер за высылку 23 российских дипломатов из Великобритании.

Официальный представитель Министерства иностранных дел России Мария Захарова, комментируя выступление Джонсона отметила, что любые подобные параллели "неприемлемы в принципе и не достойны главы дипломатического ведомства европейского государства."

Отношения Лондона и Москвы обострились после отравления в Солсбери бывшего офицера ГРУ России Сергея Скрипаля и его дочери Юлии. Инцидент произошел 4 марта. Великобритания считает, что пострадавших отравили нервно-паралитическим веществом "Новичок", разработанным в СССР. В рамках расследования "дела Скрипаля" Лондон выслал 23 российских дипломата. Москва в ответ заявила о высылке британских диппредставителей и закрытии Британского совета в России. Российские власти свою причастность к отравлению Скрипалей отвергают.

В декабре 2004 года ФСБ арестовала Скрипаля по обвинению в сотрудничестве с английской разведкой. В августе 2006 года Московский окружной военный суд вынес обвинительный приговор, Скрипаль был лишен всех званий и осужден на 13 лет тюремного заключения. В 2010 году он был помилован наряду с тремя другими россиянами. Позже их обменяли на задержанных в США российских агентов.
