Популярне британське видання The Independent 26 березня востаннє вийшло в друкованому вигляді і тепер буде існувати виключно онлайн-версії.

У зверненні власника газети, Олекснадра Лебедєва, розміщеному насайті видання, повідомляється, що 26 березня 2016 року вийшов останній паперовий номер The Independent.

Власник видання наголошує, що часи змінюються  і вимагають змін від кожного.

Лебедєв, зокрема, зазначає, що він коли він придбав видання у 2010-му році, The Independent мала щорічні збитки в розмірі 25 мільйонів фунтів стерлінгів, щоденна аудиторія друкованій версії газети булла не більше 100 тис. осіб.

За цей час аудиторія друкованої версії The Independent зросла до 400 тис. читачів на день.

В той час, як інтернет-аудиторія видання на сьогодні становить приблизно 3 млн читачів, третина з яких знаходятьс в Америці.

"За час існування газети журналістика змінилася до невпізнання. Тому газета теж повинна змінитися, адаптувавшись до технологій і звичок, які не могли передбачити хоробрі засновники цього видання ", - констатує Лебедєв у своєму зверненні.

Відзначимо, щоденна газета The Independent була заснована в 1986 році.

З початку 90-х років видання зіткнулося зі значними фінансовими труднощями, його наклад постійно знижувався, а в 2010 році видання
