В парламенті Канади вшанували жертв депортації кримськотатарського народу.

Як повідомили в прес-службі посольства України в Канаді, на сходах парламенту в Оттаві провели мітинг за участю лідера кримськотатарського Мустафи Джемілєва і ряду депутатів канадського парламенту.

Його кульмінацією став флеш-моб, під час якого депутати, активісти-правозахисники та представники української громади виклали на галявині перед парламентом золоту "тамгу" - національний символ кримськотатарського народу, пише Новое время

Відзначається також, що в Оттаві Джемілєв проводить переговори з канадськими урядовцями та парламентарями з ще більш жорсткої позиції Канади в питаннях Криму.

Він переконує канадців надати підтримку кримським татарам, які відчувають репресії в окупованому Криму, а також створити міжнародну платформу для початку переговорів про майбутнє деокупації Криму.

Сьогодні,18 травня, в Україні відзначається День пам'яті жертв геноциду кримськотатарського народу.

18 травня - День пам'яті жертв депортації кримськотатарського народу з Криму. У цей день в 1944 році в Середню Азію з півострова був відправлений перший ешелон кримських татар. Всього було депортовано понад 180 тисяч осіб.

Офіційно причиною депортації вказувалася співпраця деяких кримських татар з нацистською Німеччиною під час Другої світової війни. У 1989 році депортація була визнана Верховною Радою СРСР незаконною і злочинною. 12 листопада 2015 року Верховна Рада України визнала депортацію з Криму 1944 року геноцидом кримчан.
