Серед самих цих лідерів досі немає єдності в питанні підтримки Трампа – лідер більшості в Сенаті Мітч Макконнелл запропонував підтримку мільярдерові, натомість спікер Палати представників Пол Раян дистанціювався від Трампа і відмовився схвалити його кандидатуру, пише Радіо Свобода

9 травня Раян заявив в інтерв’ю газеті Journal Times у своєму рідному штаті Вісконсін, що немає сенсу в спробах демонструвати «фальшиву» єдність партії, коли її насправді не існує.

У прагненні уникнути відкритого конфлікту з Трампом Раян сказав, що готовий відмовитися від традиційної ролі спікера Палати представників як голови національного конвенту (з’їзду) республіканців у липні, якщо Трамп цього захоче.
