У Франції, яка готується до президентських виборів, Facebook, Google і група ЗМІ запустили проект боротьби з неправдивими новинами.

У Facebook заявили, що співпрацюватимуть з кількома провідними французькими ЗМІ, серед яких Agence France-Presse, BFM TV, а також газети L'Express і Le Monde, щоб забезпечити відсутність неправдивих новин у соцмережі.

Google теж заявив про приєднання до ініціативи, яку учасники назвали Cross Check («Перехресна перевірка»).

Під час минулорічних президентських виборів у США Facebook критикували за те, що компанія не доклала всіх зусиль, щоб уникнути публікації неправдивих новин на своїй платформі. У відповідь соцмережа почала працювати над цією проблемою.

Тепер схоже занепокоєння про те, що люди можуть поширювати через Facebook неправдиву інформацію, виникло і напередодні французьких виборів, які мають відбутися у квітні і в травні.

У США Facebook заявив, що планує дозволити користувачам позначати неправдиві новини. Соцмережа також планує перевіряти правдивість інформації за допомогою сайту Snopes, який спеціалізується на перевірці фактів, а також ABC News і Associated Press.

У січні Facebook запустив ініціативу проти неправдивих новин у Німеччині. Німецькі урядовці стурбовані тим, що неправдиві новини і мова ненависті в інтернеті можуть вплинути на парламентські вибори у вересні, на яких Ангела Меркель спробує вчетверте перемогти.
