Турецький фотограф Мустафа Тургут (Mustafa Turgut) розповів, як китайський підрозділ журналу National Geographic Traveler незаконно використав його фотографію, пише

Публікація знімка відбулася ще в 2011 році, пише PetaPixel. Тоді до Мустафи Тургута звернулася редакція китайського National Geographic Traveler. Фотографу запропонували гонорар близько $300 за публікацію його світлини Мачу Пікчу на обкладинці. Сторони довго домовлялися на яких умовах відбудеться публікація. Мустафа Тургут хотів отримати гонорар перед публікацією та п’ять примірників журналу після виходу номеру. Однак журнал погоджувався виплатити кошти тільки після публікації, посилаючись на внутрішні правила видання.
Зрештою фотограф прийняв умови редакції National Geographic Traveler. Фото було опубліковане на обкладинці журналу в листопаді 2011-го року. Поштою Мустафа Тургут отримав п’ять примірників та папери для виплати гонорару. Фотограф одразу заповнив їх та відправив назад. Але гонорар йому так і не нарахували. Редакція перестала відповідати на його листи, а коментарі, які Тургут залишав у соцмережах на сторінках NatGeo, одразу видаляли.
Нещодавно американські дизайнери створили сервіс, який запобігає крадіжці фото в інтернеті. Автори зможуть розмістити в ньому свої зображення за допомогою embed-вставок. У публікаціях такі фотографії будуть виглядати звичайно, проте інший користувач зберегти їх на свій пристрій не зможе. При натисканні на знімок він побачить спливаюче вікно з інформацією про фотографію: ім'я автора або інші дані, які він побажає вказати.
