Google создал Doodle в честь Дня защиты детей. Праздник был учрежден в ноябре 1949 г. в Париже решением конгресса Международной демократической федерации женщин, и впервые его отметили в 1950 г.

С тех пор 1 июня стало традиционным днем проведения акций в защиту прав детей. В этот же день проходят выступления противников абортов, которые отстаивают право нерожденных детей на жизнь.

В Украине День защиты детей в календаре праздников появился в 1998 г. Он установлен по Указу президента № 568/98.
