Керівництво держтелерадіокомпанії Єгипту (ERTU) відсторонило від роботи вісім жінок-телеведучих і зобов'язало їх сісти на дієту. За рішенням мовника, у жінок є один місяць, щоб схуднути та знову з'явитися в ефірі "в належному вигляді", пише ВВС.

Одна з єгипетських правозахисних груп заявила, що такий захід суперечить конституції країни і є формою насильства по відношенню до жінок.

У соцмережах та в експертному співтоваристві одні вважають міру виправданою і пропонують поширити її і на інші телеканали, інші закликають телеканал зосередитися на якості контенту, а не на зовнішності ведучих.

Попри бурхливу полеміку, джерела в компанії повідомили журналістам, що ERTU не збирається переглядати своє рішення. Представники каналу зауважили, що на період відсторонення жінкам будуть виплачувати зарплату.
