У канадского пловца Санто Кондорелли есть традиция: непосредственно перед каждым заплывом он показывает зрителям средний палец. Однако на самом деле этот жест адресован одному человеку – отцу Кондорелли, пишет Meduza.
Традиция показывать средний палец отцу появилась у Санто еще в восемь лет. Мальчика расстраивало, что он соревнуется со спортсменами старше его и проигрывает им. Тогда отец и тренер Джозеф Кондорелли сказал юному пловцу: «Ты должен стать самоуверенным и послать к черту всех своих соперников. Каждый раз, когда ты будешь стоять у стартовой тумбы, показывай мне палец, а я буду показывать его тебе». Теперь этот жест помогает Санто успокоиться и настроиться на победу.
Чтобы не смущать окружающих, Санто старается показывать неприличный жест неявно, просто прижимая средний палец к переносице. Хотя можно встретить и фотографии, на которых он гордо вскидывает руку с вытянутым пальцем.
Однажды Кондорелли искал отца в зале, увидел его и показал средний палец, не заметив, что тот сидит прямо за камерой. Получилось, что пловец оскорбил всех зрителей, потом ему пришлось извиняться.
