Британский премьер в понедельник, 30 марта, посетил Букингемский дворец, где, согласно традициям, на аудиенции с королевой Елизаветой II попросил ее распустить парламент. Во время встречи Кэмерон получил от королевы так называемую «королевскую декларацию», в которой говорится о роспуске парламента с 30 марта

После премьер вернулся в свою резиденцию на Даунинг-стрит, 10, где рассказал, что парламентские выборы пройдут 7 мая 2015 года. Во время выступления премьер заявил, что «следующий, кто войдет в здание на Даунинг-стрит, будет либо [лидер Лейбористской партии] Эд Милибэнд, либо я».

«Пять лет назад, когда я стал премьер-министром, многие из вас были безработными, у граждан не было никаких экономических гарантий и все боялись, что наша страна не сможет выплатить долги. Конечно, мы не избавились от всех проблем, однако Великобритания постепенно встает на ноги», — заявил Кэмерон, который возглавляет Консервативную партию.
