Держсекретар Джон Керрі привітав Європейський союз з Днем Європи.

Його привітання у п'ятницю опублікував сайт Держдепартаменту США,передає Українська правда

"Від імені президента Обами і народу Сполучених Штатів, я вітаю Європейський Союз в момент, коли ви святкуєте День Європи", - йдеться в повідомленні.

"Більше 60 років тому кілька країн понівечених війною почали рухатися по новому шляху, який об'єднав континент. Ви зробили це не за допомогою зброї, а вільним рухом торгівлі, ідей і людей" - зазначив Керрі.

Він додав, що сьогодні завдяки Євросоюзу, США як ніколи наблизилися до єдиної, вільної і мирної Європи.

Керрі також заявив, що Сполучені Штати пишаються співпрацею з Європою.

"Разом ми твердо підтримуємо народ України, який стоїть перед обличчям російської агресії. Ми поділяємо бачення України, захищеної в межах своїх міжнародно визнаних кордонів і що живе в мирі з усіма своїми сусідами", - підкреслив держсекретар.

Він зазначив, що США високо цінують боротьбу Європи з ІГІЛ і захоплені її роботою з порятунку людей в Середземному морі.

"З цієї радісної нагоди я вітаю Європейський Союз з його успіхами і бажаю вам миру і процвітання в майбутньому році", - резюмував Керрі.
