Опозиційна партія у Киргизстані «Ата-Мекен» («Батьківщина») вирішила висунути свого заарештованого лідера Омюрбека Текебаєва кандидатом у президенти на виборах в листопаді. Таке рішення було ухвалене на позачерговому з’їзді в столиці країни Бішкеку 5 березня, передає Радіо Свобода

Крім того, делегати на з’їзді партії вирішили провести мітинги по всій країні із закликами про звільнення Текебаєва.

Омюрбека Текебаєва, колишнього союзника, а нині опонент президента Киргизстану Алмазбека Атамбаєва взяли під варту на два місяці, до 25 квітня, за звинуваченнями про отримання хабарів і шахрайство. Його прихильники називають справу політично мотивованою, щоб не дозволити Текебаєву взяти участь у майбутніх виборах президента. Сам президент Атамбаєв ці звинувачення спростував.

Наразі, крім Текебаєва, ще двоє колишніх прем'єр-міністрів були названі кандидатами на президентських виборах, запланованих на 19 березня
