Лідер австралійської ультраправої партії "Одна нація", сенатор Полін Хансон прийшла на засідання парламенту в паранджі, релігійному одязі мусульман

Таким чином вона хотіла закликати інших депутатів підтримати ініціативу її партії заборонити носіння паранджі в громадських місцях.

Втім, генеральний прокурор країни Джордж Брандіс засудив витівку Хансон і попередив її, що це може образити півмільйона мусульман, які проживають в Австралії.

"Висміювати їх, заганяти в кут, глумитися над їхнім одягом - це просто огидно. Я б порадив вам задуматися над тим, що ви зробили", - обурився прокурор.

Його слова зустріли овацією представники інших партій. Згодом вона зняла паранджу.

Хансон, яка вперше була обрана до парламенту в 1996 році, не раз опинялася в центрі скандалів через свої антимусульманські висловлювання. Зокрема, в 2016 році вона заявила, що Австралію "наводнили мусульмани".
