Видання Seattle Times провело експеримент, який показав дивну роботу алгоритму мережі LinkedIn: наприклад, вводячи в рядок пошуку ім'я «Стефані Вільямс» (Stephanie Williams) сайт автоматично підтягував можливі результати, пропонуючи натомість чоловіче ім'я Стівен Вільямс (Stephen Williams). Такі ж результати Seattle Times отримав іще з десятком найбільш поширених жіночих імен в США. Видання спробувало перевірити, що відбувається із введенням у пошук чоловічих імен. Перебравши 100 найпоширеніших чоловічих імен в США, жіночі варіанти цих імен алгоритм LinkedIn не пропонував.

Компанія LinkedIn оновила свій алгоритм, аби в майбутньому уникнути подібних результатів пошуку по сайту.  «Алгоритм пошуку орієнтується на відносну частоту використання слів у останніх запитах і в профілях користувачів, його принцип роботи ніяк не пов'язаний із гендерною дискримінацією», - прокоментуваларечниця компанії.

Нагадаємо, корпорація Microsoft купить соціальну мережу LinkedIn за 26,2 млрд доларів. Як стверджують представники обох сторін, LinkedIn збереже «свій впізнаваний бренд, культуру і незалежність».
