Міська рада уповноважила мера столиці Франції Анну Ідальго (Anne Hidalgo) подати судовий позов проти телемережі Fox News.

Приводом стало повідомлення американської телемережі про те, що у французькій столиці нібито є зони, в яких не насмілюються з’являтися ані мусульмани, ані поліція (no-go zones),пише Media Sapiens

Рішення стосовно позову щодо дифамації представники муніципалітету ухвалили через голосування.

Їхнє різке невдоволення викликали коментарі Fox News та мапа з показом восьми так званих недоступних районів, обведених червоними кружальцями.

Це повідомлення Fox News вийшло в ефір у січні, коли після терактів ісламських екстремістів Париж перебував у стані підвищеної тривоги.

Мер французької столиці присягнулася «врятувати честь Парижа» і підкреслила важливість збереження його іміджу як головного туристичного центру світу.

Юридична фірма, яка представляє інтереси американської телекомпанії, заявила, що вона протистоятиме поданню будь-якого позову у Парижі. В оприлюдненій заяві представник юридичної фірми Hogan Lovells стверджує, що рішення паризької мерії розпочати юридичні процедури проти американської новинної компанії «неетичне з погляду свободи слова».

Раніше Fox News вже ставала жертвою нищівної критики у зв’язку із коментарем експерта про британський Бірмінгем як «повністю мусульманське місто». Згодом американська телемережа вибачилася за «деякі прикрі помилки».
