В засобах масової інформації з’явились повідомлення, що теперішній народний депутат України та журналіст в минулому Сергій Лещенко шантажував Пола Манафорта, який очолював передвиборчу кампанію чинного американського президента Дональда Трампа
Як заявляють джерела, влітку 2016 року Лещенко надсилав дочці Пола Манафорта повідомлення, в якому він начебто вказував, що в його руках є важлива для її батька інформацією і саме тому йому необхідно з ним зв’язатись. Такі дані стали доступні після того, як електронну пошту та базу даних телефону Сергія Лещенка було зламано. В листуванні з донькою Манафорта, нардеп вимагав у неї контакти її батька, аргументуючи це тим, що він має справжні докази того, що Манафорт отримував хабарі від Партії регіонів. Наразі український парламентар заперечує такі звинувачення, заявляючи, що його поштова скринька розміщена зовсім на іншому інтернет-ресурсі.
В минулому році Сергій Лещенко вже озвучував інформацію про те, що тодішній очільник передвиборчої кампанії Трампа Пол Манафорт отримав неофіціально від Партії мільйонів декілька мільйонів доларів. Згодом цю інформацію визнали такою, що не відповідає дійсності, але Манафорт вже був змушений звільнитись з посади очільника передвиборчого штабу тоді ще кандидата в президенти США Дональда Трампа.
