Американська газета The New York Times напередодні проміжних виборів звернулася до своїх читачів із проханням повідомляти про можливі дезінформаційні повідомлення, які поширюються в мережі. Про це пише Media Sapiens із посиланням на Poynter.

The New York Times розмістила на своєму сайті спеціальну онлайн-форму, в якій можна повідомити про підозрілу новину. Повідомити можна й про Facebook-акаунт, який поширює неправдиві новини, YouTube-канал чи обговорення на Reddit.

«Знаючи про те, що відбувалося в 2016 році, зараз є розуміння того, що дезінформація була і залишається великою проблемою в соціальних медіа», — прокоментувала Ребекка Блуменштейн (Rebecca Blumenstein), заступниця керуючого редактора The New York Times.

«Ми агресивно висвітлювали вибори, намагаючись дізнатися правду про те, що відбувається в різних кампаніях, і не можна залишити такого гравця, як Facebook, без уваги», — додала вона. Онлайн-форма на сайті The New York Times працює вже тиждень й в середньому журналісти отримують через неї близько 100 повідомлень від читачів.

The New York Times не єдине видання, яке просить читачів повідомляти їм про дезінформацію. Схожі сторінки та проекти запустили видання Mother Jones,  BuzzFeed та ProPublica.
