На президентских выборах в Португалии в первом туре победил правоцентристский кандидат Марсело Ребело ди Соуза. Об этом сообщает Associated Press.

По результатам подсчета 98 процентов голосов ди Соуза получил 52,4 процента голосов, что обеспечивает победу в первом туре.

67-летний ди Соуза работал редактором газеты, политическим обозревателем, впоследствии стал членом правительства, заседал в Европарламенте. Он имеет ученое звание профессора права.

Ди Соуза в марте сменит нынешнего президента Португалии Анибала Каваку Силву, который провел на этом посту два пятилетних срока. По закону это является максимально допустимым периодом.

Пост президента в Португалии является, по сути, церемониальным. Он не имеет исполнительной власти, но в условиях кризиса может распустить парламент.

Нынешнее правительство было образовано социалистами, набравшими на парламентских выборах относительно меньше голосов, чем их соперники социал-демократы. Правые, однако, не смогли сформировать свое правительство, после чего были отправлены в отставку. Новый кабинет был сформирован при поддержке союзников социалистов — компартии и Левого блока.
