Діючий президент Франції Франсуа Олланд офіційно оголосив, що відмовляється брати участь у президентських виборах 2017 року. Про це він заявив у телевізійному зверненні до народу у четвер ввечері, повідомляє "Європейська правда" з посиланням на Politico.

"Я вирішив не висувати свою кандидатуру", - повідомив Олланд.

"В найближчі місяці єдиним моїм завданням буде керівництво країною... до закінчення мого терміну президентства в умовах, коли ризик терористичних атак високий як ніколи", - зазначив він.

Франсуа Олланд стане першим президентом післявоєнної Франції, який не буде боротися за посаду глави держави після завершення першого терміну президентства. Необхідно зазначити, що у разі висунення своєї кандидатури він не мав шансів пройти навіть у другий тур – всі опитування показують, що Олланд є найменш популярним президентом в новітній історії країни.

Його партія, французькі соціалісти, також має вкрай низький рейтинг підтримки.

Водночас, Олланд пообіцяв зробити все можливе, щоб уникнути розколу в партії, "оскільки це знищило б всі надії щодо перемоги над консерваторами, і, ще гірше, екстремістами".
