Порушення прав людини в непідконтрольній частині Донбасу робить сумнівною можливість проведення там демократичних виборів, заявляє помічник генерального секретаря ООН з прав людини Іван Шимонович, передає Інтерфакс-Україна.

"У першу чергу основоположні права і свободи обмежені для 2,7 млн ​​осіб, які проживають в районах, підконтрольних незаконним збройним формуванням. Це обмеження їхньої свободи, вираження поглядів, мирних зібрань та об'єднань і відсутність можливостей для протилежних поглядів. Це викликає сумніви в можливості проведення вільних і чесних виборів в цих районах, поки ситуація не покращиться", - сказав Шимонович на прес-конференції в Києві.

"Тільки повага до громадянських і політичних прав може наблизити і до проведення виборів, результати яких можуть бути визнані", - додав він.

При цьому Шимонович нагадав, що за два роки конфлікту на Донбасі було порушено 3 тис 687 кримінальних проваджень за фактом зникнення людей в Донецькій і Луганській областях.

Крім того, в доповіді Управління ООН з прав людини повідомляється, що з початку конфлікту на Донбасі загинули 9 тис 371 осіб і 21 тис 523 були поранені.
